What is amblyopia, and how is it treated?
Amblyopia, or “lazy eye,” occurs when one eye doesn’t develop proper vision, typically in childhood. Early treatment is critical, but even adults can benefit from modern therapies.
Understanding Amblyopia
Lazy eye typically develops in early childhood when one eye fails to achieve normal visual acuity. Causes may include strabismus, unequal prescription, or obstruction. At Eye Care Center LTD, we assess visual acuity, alignment, and eye teaming to create an individualized treatment plan. Depending on the age and condition severity, treatment may include glasses, patching, atropine drops, and/or vision therapy. Our approach is local, personalized, and proven effective.

What are the symptoms of amblyopia?
A child’s early years are filled with wonder, learning, and growth and healthy vision plays a vital role in all of it. That’s why we provide gentle, comprehensive pediatric eye exams for families in Willowbrook, Burbank, and Addison. Amblyopia (lazy eye) often flies under the radar, especially in younger children. Kids might not even realize they’re having trouble seeing. One of the key signs is poor depth perception, which makes it harder for them to judge how close or far things are. As a parent, you might notice small behaviors like:- Squinting
- Closing one eye to focus
- Tilting their head to see better
How Is Amblyopia Treated?
Treating amblyopia starts by addressing any underlying vision problems. If your child is nearsighted, farsighted, or has a condition like cataracts, we may begin with glasses, contacts, or in some cases, surgery to correct the issue. Once the initial cause is managed, the goal is to re-train the brain to use the weaker eye. The more it’s used, the stronger it becomes. Common treatment options include:- Eye patching: Covering the stronger eye with a soft, stick-on patch (similar to a Band-Aid) encourages the brain to rely on the weaker eye. Some children may only need to wear the patch for a couple of hours a day, while others may need it during all waking hours.
- Atropine eye drops: A once-daily drop in the stronger eye can temporarily blur near vision, prompting the brain to use the weaker eye instead. This approach can work just as well as patching and is often easier for younger kids who resist wearing a patch.

Would recommend Dr. Jenna Bacerra to anyone of all ages! Previous eye doctors at corporate chains rushed through my eye exam but Dr. Bacerra described everything with great attention. My time went past 5 because I had so many questions but my dr. and the sweet lady that helped me with my paperwork reassured me it was okay 🙂

Customer Beware! This place is a total scam. They lie to you about your insurance to force you into paying a ton out of pocket and at the same time double bill your insurance for the same services that you just paid out of pocket.

I spoke to the owner. It was a great call. Definitely miscommunication which led to confusion and red flags. Eye Care center is not a scam. I remain a customer of Eye Care Center and look forward to continuing to use them for my eye care needs in the future.

The entire appointment was great. The office is located in a mall. Easy to find and plenty of parking. I was seen by the Med-tech as soon as we arrived. He was very kind and professional. As soon as the tech was finished his testing I went to see the DR. DR Albina was wonderful. He totally knew my vision situation and spoke to both my wife and I. It was a refreshing experience because he, in just a few minutes knew exactly what I have be dealing with for almost 40 years. He is going to stay in contact with me even though this was a one time visit set up by Veterans Evaluation Services. I highly recommend DR. Albina!
